The divorce proceedings of Kim Kardashian and rapper, now legally known as Ye is proving to be the one of the biggest celebrity feuds of the year, with the rapper lamenting his separation from the beauty mogul in the form of be it his private texts with her or poorly-edited memes attacking the former’s boyfriend Pete Davidson. It can be seen that Ye can truly not be stopped.
The rapper has also not limited to urging his fans to shout “Kimye forever” at Davidson in public, and sending the beauty mogul a truckload of of red roses, and releasing a song with The Game where he can be seen rapping “God saved me from that crash [referring to the car accident he survived in 2002] / Just so I can beat Pete Davidson's ass.”
Each day new headlines grace the news and we see the “Famous” rapper getting increasingly desperate to win back the reality tv star. What started off as a series of amusing events has now taken a dark turn, with West’s escalating behavior which comes soon after his very public romance with actress Julia Fox who he has now parted ways with, soon before he was seen gifting her and her friends “Birkins” for the former’s 32nd birthday.
One of his recent posts however generated a lot of buzz as he posted private screenshots of his messages with Kim as she asked him to stop slamming her boyfriend publicly as she wrote “You are creating a dangerous and scary environment and someone will hurt Pete [Davidson] and this will be all your fault.”
Kardashian even went further as to questioning him why he can’t keep any of their conversations private, the rapper replied quite unabashedly “Cause I got a text from my favorite person in the world. I’m your number one fan. Why wouldn’t I tell everyone!”
West was seen apologizing a day later, as he wrote in a now deleted post “I know sharing screenshots was jarring and came off as harassing Kim," he wrote. "I take accountability. I’m still learning in real time. I don’t have all the answers. To be a good leader is to be a good listener”.
He also added “I've learned that using all caps makes people feel like I'm screaming at them. I'm working on my communication," he wrote. "I can benefit from a team of creative professionals, organizers, mobilizers and community leaders. Thank everybody for supporting me."
In the light of the events that have been unfolding many admit that it has been triggering to see the watch so many in the public make light of the “Donda” rapper’s reaction to his divorce and the parallels between those and leaving their abusive houses. Noting how impressionable young fans, mostly male are glorifying the rapper’s fight to “bring back the family” when the lengths he is going through are actually quite the poster picture for harassment.
In an article from the Huffpost, high conflict divorce coach Tina Swintin can seen quoting “If there was ever a playbook for how to terrorize your soon-to-be ex-wife, he is using it and the patterns are both chilling and predictable,” Swithin continued. “Most every so-called ‘high-conflict custody battle’ has three basic narratives: the abuser’s need for control, the abuser’s need to ‘win’ and the abuser’s desire to hurt or punish the healthy parent.”
Not only does West’s post feed into a circle of abuse and a culture of violence, it shows how social media normalizes and in this case, even encourages emotional abuse towards women. While it should be noted West is struggling with his own mental health issues, it should not however excuse his behavior with that being said as Kardashain has had however a scandalous past to say the least it shouldn’t nullify the mistreatment she’s been getting from not only the media but also West.
This shouldn’t be treated like any gossip fodder just because a Kardashian’s name is attached to it.
